Ryan, raised in Cork, Ireland, started his career with Highland RFC, and then moved onto Dolphin RFC. Ryan was an integral part of the Munster Academy, and earned time with the Munster A Side as well. He signed his first professional contract with Rugby Viadana (Italy). After making 5 appearances for the organization, he joined forces with London Welsh.
Between 2015 and 2017, Ryan featured for both Libourne Athletic Union and Newcastle Falcons. He made 7 appearances in the English Premiership before going down with nagging injuries. Following his time at Newcastle, the tighthead specialist moved on to Bath.
Ryan made his first appearance for the US National Team in June of 2017, when he came on as a replacement against Ireland, a nation he knows very well. He went on to make his first start 2 weeks later, in a World Cup 2019 qualifying match against Canada. He is currently in the USA player pool and expects to contend for a spot on the World Cup roster.
Prior to joining Rugby United NY, Ryan spent last season in Austin, with fellow teammates Marcus Walsh, Mike Brown, and Ross Deacon. Paddy’s brothers, Timmy and Dave, are also experienced professional rugby players.
