VETERAN FLANKER SIGNS WITH RUGBY UNITED NEW YORK
NEW YORK (February 22, 2019)- New York’s first professional rugby franchise, Rugby United New York, is thrilled to confirm the signing of New Jersey native, Flanker James Denise. Denise was a key member of the 2018 RUNY side that went undefeated during the 2018 exhibition season.
Denise, from Hawthorne, NJ, has been a staple in the New York rugby community for the last decade. Before linking up with the New York Athletic Club, Denise was a force to be reckoned with, playing for NJ powerhouse Morris County. In 2008, he joined the Winged Foot, winning a National Championship with them in his first year.
Denise went on to win three more national championships with NYAC in 2010, 2012, and 2015. In between those seasons, Denise also spent time down in Australia, playing for the historic Randwick Rugby club, as well as GPS Rugby Club. During this time, Denise suited up for US national team’s developmental side, the USA Hawks, while earning invitations to National Team high performance camps.
At 33 years old, the coaching staff will turn to Denise to be a leader in the clubhouse, as well as an enforcer on the field. You can see James, and the rest of Rugby United New York, play at MCU Park this spring. The home opener is March 15th, at 7:30 PM, against rivals Toronto Arrows. About Major League Rugby
MLR is a professional rugby league that launched in April of 2018. It’s an initiative of the American rugby community, in partnership with private investors, who believe that American rugby can thrive at the highest levels: as a commercial enterprise; as an influential player on the international scene; and as a participation sport at the youth and senior level. MLR is the pinnacle of the American rugby, and provides a rallying point for local communities, a focal point for American rugby fans, and an aspirational destination for young athletes.
