RUNY YOUTH CONTINGENT GROWS
NEW YORK (December 23, 2019)- Rugby United New York announced this evening the retention of a trio of players that will be looking to make their Major League Rugby debuts in the 2020 season. Athletes Brian McKellar, Erik Tack, and Jake Feury make up a youth contingent that has been added to an ever-growing RUNY roster. The three primarily appeared on the practice squad throughout the 2019 campaign.
McKellar, Prop, was on the RUNY practice squad during his rookie Major League Rugby season. The 25-year-old graduated from Pennsylvania State University and has since featured for the New York Athletic Club. During his time as a Nittany Lion, McKellar All Conference honors twice before becoming a Collegiate All American in his last year of eligibility. The loosehead specialist appeared for RUNY during the 2018 exhibition season before earning a contract last season.
Tack, a versatile Outside Back, has been re-signed for the 2020 Major League Rugby season after showing promise during his 2019 rookie year. Tack was part of a powerhouse Greenwich High School program that won four consecutive state titles. Upon graduation, he brought his talents to the University of Maryland, competing in multiple Collegiate Rugby Championship tournaments. He has played with Old Blue the last two seasons, helping them win both the Elite Cup and the American Rugby Premiership in 2018.
Feury, another versatile Outside Back, appeared on the match-day roster in the last match of the 2019 season against the Toronto Arrows, but did not see action and earn his first cap. The local talent has been retained for the 2020 season and will be looking to earn his first cap during his second year of Major League Rugby. Feury grew up surrounded by the sport and comes from one of New Jersey’s premier rugby families, highlighted by his sister’s Eagle caps. The powerful back brought relevancy to the Middlebury College Rugby program before graduating and competing with his hometown club Morris County. The talented playmaker appeared for RUNY during the 2018 exhibition season.
