RUGBY UNITED NEW YORK OWNER MAKES MONUMENTAL MOVE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK (April 1, 2019)- New York’s professional rugby franchise, Rugby United New York, continued to make headlines over the weekend. As the team travelled to San Antonio, Texas for a match against the Austin Elite, RUNY Chairman and Owner, James Kennedy, was stuck in negotiations in Auckland, New Zealand.
The New Zealand All Blacks, the powerhouse Southern Hemisphere national team, have purchased majority ownership of the club from the owner and founder. The terms of the deal are undisclosed, however there have been rumors swirling that the price tag for the blossoming franchise was north of the 8-figure mark. The deal is effective immediately.
The deal took Pierre Arnald, Chief Executive Officer of the organization, by surprise. In a stunningly unprofessional manner, Kennedy informed him of the sale through an unconventional medium- a selfie with All Blacks’ Head Coach Steve Hansen. The caption reportedly read “I’m out. *Peace sign emoji*”
“It was rather shocking,” Arnald told us. “A heads up would have been appreciated. He told me he was going to his home in up-state New York for the weekend.”
Kennedy was unavailable for comment, and has seemingly been off the grid since various New Zealand paparazzi members caught pictures of him boarding a private jet at the Auckland Airport.
“To be clear, this is not James Kennedy selling out,” the ex-owner’s publicist, hired two hours ago, said. “We have no other comment at this time.”
We’re just kidding. Kennedy is still here, working hard to get you guys, our fans, the best product possible. Support your Roosters and buy tickets here today. BIG GAME against the San Diego Legion on Sunday, April 14th.
Happy April Fools Day!
