RUGBY UNITED NEW YORK ANNOUNCES SECOND CLASS OF RE-SIGNED ATHLETES

NEW YORK (November 14, 2019)- Rugby United New York announced today that 5 more athletes have put pen to paper prior to the 2020 Major League Rugby season.
This group join athletes Nate Brakeley, Chris Mattina, Mark O’Keeffe, Ben Foden, and Alex MacDonald as members of the 2019 Rugby United New York team that have confirmed their return for their second season in the Big Apple.
Petri, Scrum Half, was the captain for the Rugby United New York during their inaugural Major League Rugby season. The veteran, 35 years old, extends his contract after reigniting his professional playing career. He appeared in all 17 contests for RUNY, clocking in for 1,120 minutes. He was efficient on both sides of the ball, completing 160 tackles while scoring 3 tries. The native New Yorker kicked 75 times for 1,651 meters.
Rochford, Prop, was the only other RUNY athlete to appear in all 17 contests. The veteran Irishman is a specialist loosehead, but spent time on both sides of the scrum this past season due to injuries up front. The unit carried for 299 meters on 76 carries, while connecting with his teammates on 7 offloads. He was one of the defensive pillars for RUNY last season, making 114 tackles.
Cassidy, Lock, earned 14 caps for Rugby United New York during the 2019 season, making his debut in the season opener against the San Diego Legion. The Old Blue product regularly combined with Nate Brakeley in the Second Row to create a powerful defensive tandem that caused the opposition nightmares. The Vermont native spent 765 minutes on the field, and managed to find the try zone once. He was sixth on the team in made tackles (136) while completing 8 “dominant tackles.” Cassidy made 208 meters on his 58 ball carries.
Wallace-Sims, Wing, was rewarded with 1st Team All MLR honors after a breakout debut in Major League Rugby. He earned 15 caps, totaling, 1,134 minutes, good enough for 4th on the RUNY roster. The capped 7s Eagle terrorized defenses all season long, scoring 8 tries, 2nd most on the team. He brought his point tally to 48 with a few successful kicks at goal, becoming the 3rd leading point scorer for the Roosters. The young playmaker carried for 757 meters on 79 ball carries.
St. Claire, a versatile back that can play both wing and center, made his debut for Rugby United New York in their March 15th clash against the Toronto Arrows. He totaled 681 minutes in his 11 appearances and was a consistent attacking threat for the New York City based MLR franchise. St. Claire scored 3 tries, carried for 459 meters on 48 carries, and completed 55 tackles. He earned the admiration of all RUNY fans after scoring one of the tries of the season against the Glendale Raptors- his first starting appearance. He broke the line 5 times, good enough for 4th on the team.
