Preview: MLR Week 4
NEW YORK v HOUSTON
Week four of the Major League Rugby season sees Rugby United New York travel down to Houston, Texas for the Game of the Week match up against the Houston Sabercats.
Rugby United New York is finding its rhythm, entering Houston after back to back wins. The Sabercats are defending their home turf after suffering back to back losses. While the West isn’t as competitive as the East, a third loss in a row would be big. For the Roosters, a win here gets them into the top three teams in the table.
Players to Watch
Mike Petri- Scrum Half
This is the first start of the season for the 2020 Vice-Captain. After being the lead man throughout the 2019 season, Marcus Walsh has stepped up and earned the starting role this season. RUNY Head Coach Greg McWilliams gave Petri the nod against the ‘Cats, and the veteran will be pairing with Cathal Marsh in the halfbacks. The two featured together for the majority of last season.
Sam Windsor- Fly Half
The Australian Fly Half is the heart and soul of the Sabercats team. This is his third year down in Houston and although the team has not yet made the postseason, Windsor has been one of their bright spots. He is one of the more consistent goal kickers in the league and will likely take shots at goal whenever they got the opportunity. He is talented with ball in hand, but Sabercat fans haven’t seen a spark plug performance from him yet this season.
