Marsh Earns MLR Player of the Week Honors as RUNY Trio Gets Selected for Team of the Week
Rugby United New York will have a few familiar faces on Major League Rugby’s Team of the Week.
Fly Half Cathal Marsh, Wing Connor Wallace-Sims, and Center Ben Foden have all been selected after stand out performances against the NOLA Gold. Marsh also won the MLR’s Player of the Week, the highest honor an MLR athlete can get each week.
Marsh scored 17 points for New York’s professional rugby franchise, making him the leading scorer across the entirety of Major League Rugby on the weekend. He seemed unstoppable on the day, carrying the ball ten times for 91 meters. On defense, he did not miss a tackle, completing eight of eight. Marsh’s two penalty kicks, three conversions, and one try earned him Man of the Match honors, in addition to the accolades set forth by Major League Rugby.
Wallace-Sims earns his spot on the Team of the Week for a second time this season after continuing his scoring ways against a tough NOLA side. He dotted down after a long Marsh break, and his support play was enough to get the sides all tied up at 17, just around midway through the first half. In addition to that, he led the team in kicking meters, with three kicks put into play for a whopping 117 meters. Wallace-Sims kept NOLA danger-man Tristian Blewett off the score sheet, making all four of his tackles that he attempted.
The last RUNY playmaker to earn this weekly honor is the veteran Ben Foden. The Englishman, that starred for both his national team as well as the Premiership’s Northampton Saints, was a cooling presence on the field this past weekend. He played all 80 minutes, while accounting for six carries.
Congratulations to all the RUNY athletes that were selected, and to Cathal Marsh for his accomplishment has MLR Player of the Week.
