How Many Businesses Does RUNY’s Jake Feury Own?
By Kiera Fitzgibbon
Jake Feury is a professional rugby player, business professional, and now an entrepreneur- all at the age of 25. Currently, the RUNY athlete is preparing for the opening of his second business, Stretch Recovery Lounge. Stretch is a Practitioner Assisted Stretching and Athletic Recovery Facility that caters to all ages and fitness levels. The recovery lounge hopes to help anyone with pain, stiffness, tightness or mobility issues to get healthy and moving the way they want to again.
The company will offer a variety of services such as Practitioner Assisted Stretching, Soft Tissue Therapy, Compression Therapy, Ice Compression Therapy, and Inversion Therapy. Each program is catered to the patients’ unique situation and uses a variety of practices to achieve the client’s goal.
“Movement is an integral part of my life,” shared Jake. “I want to help people stay active and feel healthy, whether that’s just a walk around the park more easily or to try their hand in elite-level sports.”
Jake hopes to take all that he’s learned as an athlete to provide the best preventive and recovery care to his clients. He hopes that his preventative care will not only help clients regain mobility and strength, but also teach them the importance of taking care of your body to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
“Luckily, I have been fortunate to get exposed to really innovative recovery tools as a result of my rugby career,” Jake continued. “Stretch is a place where patients can come to get high-end athlete recovery treatments. The goal is to help create more pliable and bendable muscles to prevent injury and keep them on the field.”
Jake’s other passion, snowboarding, was the reasoning behind his first business venture- Zuke Sports. In 2006, the young athlete bought a new Burton snowboard. Understanding the importance of maintaining his board, Feury worked with his mother to develop a safe and clean way to protect one’s board. The prototype of the Board Shield was born. Zuke Sports is an action sports and lifestyle brand, and their first product is the Board Shield.
The Board Shield protects a snowboard from scratches, actively wicking moisture off the board to prevent rust. Its portable and sleek design make it easily transportable to and from the mountain while the cover keeps the board’s edges sharp and the base smooth. This unique take on a snowboard cover, with its slimmer design, makes the Board Shield stand out in the action sports market.
“I always had an entrepreneurial spirit in me, but I was not sure where it would eventually manifest,” he continued, referring to the Board Shield. “Once I saw there was a demand there, I decided to press on and bring the project to life.”
As if that’s not a busy enough schedule for Jake, he’s also a professional rugby player with RUNY. Jake started playing rugby at five years old when his parents started a flag rugby team, the Dawgs, in his hometown of Denville, New Jersey. His dad played for Rutgers University and Morris County Rugby, and both parents are involved in coaching and administration.
At RUNY, Jake is a bit of a celebrity because of his long hair. Jake feels his hair is an extension of his personality- he wants to live life his own, eccentric way. Last year, he cut his hair and donated it to Locks of Love, a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada suffering from medical illnesses. The hair donations are used to make wigs for these children, restoring their self-esteem and confidence during a difficult time in their lives.
“The best part about playing for RUNY is the opportunity to represent and honor all of the amazing volunteers in the rugby community,” shared Jake. “I would not be where I am today without all those people. Every time I step on the field, I strive to represent them in the right way.”
Stretch’s grand opening is October 5. You can find more information on Stretch here and book your appointment today! Best of luck on your new adventure, Jake!
