Dylan Fawsitt Named 2020 Roosters’ Captain
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NEW YORK (January 27, 2020) – With the 2020 Major League Rugby season less than two weeks away, Rugby United New York announced the team captains this evening. The team appointed Dylan Fawsitt as Captain of the Roosters, with fellow veterans Mike Petri and Nate Brakeley named Vice-Captains.
The Captain- Dylan Fawsitt
Fawsitt was RUNY’s Vice-Captain during the 2019 MLR season. Butcher led the league in tries scored (13) and finished second on the team in completed tackles (170). As a reward for his outstanding play, Fawsitt earned MLR 1st XV honors at the conclusion of the year. This past fall, he represented the United States national team at the Rugby World Cup. His teammates voted him as their Captain for the 2020 season.
“I’m a man amongst many leaders,” Fawsitt stated, describing his teammates. “Our job is to make sure we’re the best team we can be. That is all that matters.”
“Dylan is the right man to lead this team,” Head Coach McWilliams told us. “When he speaks, everyone listens. His passion for this club is infectious.”
The Vice Captains- Mike Petri and Nate Brakeley
The team voted Mike Petri into a captaincy role for the second consecutive season. After being appointed team Captain in 2019, he now shifts to a Vice-Captain role for the 2020 campaign. Petri turned back the clocks in 2019, appearing in every match and earning 2nd XV honors.
On Fawsitt’s appointment, the scrum half said, “Dylan works incredibly hard and is very passionate. He competes at every opportunity, we all see that and feed off of it. He’s an exciting player that brings energy into our team.”
Nate Brakeley, appointed as another Vice Captain, joins Petri and Fawsitt in this leadership group. Like Butcher, the Massachusetts native is coming off an outstanding 2019 MLR season. He earned First XV honors before representing the United States at the Rugby World Cup. The Dartmouth graduate will likely be the lead operator of the RUNY line out again this season.
“It’s a privilege to be recognized as a leader by the team,” Brakeley spoke candidly. “I’m looking forward to the massive responsibility it entails for not only my teammates, but also our supporters and this city. I’m very optimistic about this season. I couldn’t be more excited to jump into it with the team we’ve put together.”
This group leads RUNY into their second season of Major League Rugby. The Roosters start their season in Las Vegas on February 9th, opening against the New England Free Jacks. RUNY’s home opener is set for 3/15 against the two-time defending champions, Seattle Seawolves. Fans can purchase season tickets here.
